The Managing Editor Show is a weekly podcast that was born out of frustrated obscenities from real life editors, muttered under their breaths, while rejecting your piece.
With almost a decade of experience in the content management and editorial industries, Jess Ostroff noticed that the quality of submissions and caliber of pitches has been on a rapid decline in recent months. Yet her own writing clients, who create exceptional work, were struggling to get their voices heard on high-valued sites and publications.
There had to be a better way.
After a lot of planning, Google Docs scripts, and one or two bourbon fueled evenings, Jess and her former co-host, Elisa Doucette, decided to let the rest of the world in on the deep dark dirty secrets and conversations that managing editors have behind-the-scenes, so that writers and other content creators who are looking to get published would have an inside track.
With weekly episodes, released every Tuesday morning and less than 30 minutes long, The Managing Editor Show dives into various pitfalls and successes Jess has seen in her daily work (names and details are changed to protect the clueless!). She also speaks with other talented editors, writers, and content marketers to get more ideas on how to get your work published.
If you have ever been accepted or rejected for publication someplace other than your site, or you'd like to give that sort of thing a try, this irreverent but essential podcast is for you.

If you use Stitcher, we'll give you five dollars to leave us a review there. Because we don't actually know anyone who uses Stitcher. Okay, that's not true. Elisa has an Android and probably uses it. Can you tell Jess is writing this right now?
Who Is The Managing Editor?
JESS OSTROFF - CEO AND DIRECTOR OF CALM, DON'T PANIC MANAGEMENT
Jess is the founder of a unique agency that is redefining the stigma and reputation of what a virtual assistant can do. Don't Panic Management provides administrative and executive assistance as well as marketing and social media assistance for business owners, entrepreneurs, and managers so that they can focus on the things they do best and delegate the rest.
A firm believer that assistants rule the world, her goal is to empower motivated individuals to build the independent careers of their dreams while boosting the bottom line of agencies and business around the U.S. and Canada.
Her clients include some of the biggest marketing companies in the world, so she has learned from the best when it comes to writing, editing, and content creation. As the Managing Editor for several publications, most notably Convince & Convert, she has successfully (albeit painstakingly) become the smiling gatekeeper for thoughtful content while working diligently on managing writers effectively and creating content efficiently.
Jess doesn't write as much as she'd like to these days, but she is building her speaking career on topics surrounding content marketing processes and teams and leading successfully in a virtual work environment. She lives for great food, live music, and entertaining, and exercises solely to counter the effects of the copious amounts of champagne, cheese, and bourbon she consumes.
